Oliver Ledi Hanane is a Naarm (Melbourne) based Musician and Artist currently in his final year of the Bachelor of Jazz and Improvisation at the Victorian College of the Arts (Australia).


He has an interest in the idiosyncrasies of all styles of music. He has played in groups ranging from Cinematic-Math Rock, Punk, Neo-Soul and Jazz. He is currently the resident drummer for the Katarzyna Witorski Octet who in the lock-down of 2020 recorded their debut EP ‘From A Distance’. Following this, the Octet played a sold-out show at The Melbourne International Womens Jazz Festival in 2020. Oliver also plays drums and percussion with the Afro-Beat ensemble Alariiya, headed by Nigerian born trumpeter, Olugbade Okunde, a former member of Seun Kuti & Egypt 80. Alariiya has played festivals such as White Night, Rainbow Serpent and Strawberry Fields and frequently perform at Bar Oussou.


Oliver began his musical life playing the viola, then transitioned to drums and percussion later in his teenage years. It was then that he was introduced to jazz and improvised music. He became fascinated by the linguistic and expansive nature of the genre.


Oliver has studied under renowned, Melbourne based teachers: Dave Beck, Graham Morgan, David Jones and, is currently under the tutelage of Dylan Van Der Schyff.
